Seeland (dänisch), ist die größte und wichtigste Insel der dänischen Monarchie. Sie liegt zwischen dem Kattegat und der Ostsee, hat einen Flächenraum von 131 Quadratmeilen und 331,000 Einwohner. An Getraide ist sie überaus fruchtbar; besonders hat sie vortreffliche Vieh- und Pferdezucht, und auf ihr befindet sich auch außer mehreren königlichen Lustschlössern und der bekannten Festung Helsingör die Haupt- und Residenzstadt Copenhagen (s. Copenhagen).

Folgendes ist die (schon aus Uebersetzungen bekannte) Erklärung, welche die Englische Hofzeitung vom 7ten May hierüber enthält:
Foreign Office, May 4.
The Righr Hon. George Canning, His Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, has this day notified to the Ministers of Friendly and Neutral Powers resident at this Court, that His Majesty has judged it expedient to establish the most rigorous blockade of the port of Copenhagen, and of all the other ports in the island of Zealand; and that the same will be maintained and enforced in the strictest mannet, according to the usages of war acknowledged and allowed in similar cases.
